As recently as this month, we\u2019ve stumbled upon a curious legal case study. It all started with a Texas municipal court judg fining a woman with $1,590 for a missing decal on her car license plate \u2026 Though just a few days after, the judge has obviously changed her mind about the penalty and its amount.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week reported on the plight of 52-year-old Fulton County resident Linda Ford and what the paper described as an \u201coutlandish\u201d fine that had been imposed by Grantville Municipal Court Judge Lisa R. Reeves. The woman repeatedly tried to pay the fine at once, but she just missed a deadline\u2026 To understand how the case unfolded, let\u2019s roll back to the last fall, when Ms. Ford\u2019s troubles began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was then, when on an unfortunate occasion she\u2019s been driving past the local police department building, as the Grantville, TX police officer pulled her over and accused of missing a plate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the journalist who was at the scene accidentally, that\u2019s what happened next:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

She was about to attend a local church\u2019s yard sale, where she intended to raise some money for homeless women of Grantville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While she passed the police building, the officer pulled her over, he said, because her license place cover had too much tint on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the fact that it was the dirt \u2014 not tinting \u2014 blown from the car\u2019s exhaust which ultimately made it difficult to read her plate, the officer didn\u2019t bother to note that down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And that was then when the story began to become eerie\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though Ms. Ford had her documents on her, showing that her vehicle registration was valid and up-to-date, she\u2019s been charged with a $720 fine that increased to $1,590 when she missed a payment deadline for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sadly, marriages don\u2019t always work out. Sometimes people just change and drift apart. At other times there is real damage done by abuse or other issues.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>Adam Smith<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Joint assets accumulated while in marriage are limited to $40,000.
Individual assets are limited to $40,000.
Debts are limited to $6,000.
There are additional requirements which must be met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A summary dissolution can be fast, while it nevertheless carries a financial risk because a judge is not required to complete the process and the parties may not be assisted with a legal advice<\/p>\n\n\n\n
